privacy
the short version: we keep what kyu needs to be a good companion, you can see all of it, and you can delete all of it.
this website
no analytics, no ad pixels, no third-party scripts, no cookies. when you sign in, a short-lived token (30 minutes) is kept in your browser's session storage so your page works. closing the tab or signing out removes it.
what we keep
- your number. stored only where the texting service needs it to reach you. everything else is keyed on a one-way, salted hash of it.
- your conversation with your companion, and the schedule of when they'll text next.
- memories. short notes the companion keeps about you, each linked to where it came from. you can read them on your page, and correct them by telling your companion.
- consent records for anything optional you switch on, with the exact words you were shown.
- billing state: your plan, and Stripe's ids for it. we never see your card.
who else handles it
- Stripe takes payment and runs the plan-management page.
- the AI model provider that writes your companion's replies receives the recent conversation and a few relevant memories for each reply.
- iMessage carries the messages, under Apple's own terms.
we don't sell or share your data for advertising. ever.
video training
- we may use face video from your video calls with your companion to train our models. only face video: never your voice or audio, your texts, transcripts, memories or anything else.
- we never recreate or synthesise anyone's face. any face in something we generate is not a real person and must not be taken as one.
- face video is biometric data. we use it only for training, keep it for up to 1 year, never sell or share it, and delete it when you turn this off or delete your account.
- turning it off removes your video from future training runs. models already trained aren't retrained.
- it's never needed to use kyu, and saying no changes nothing else.
where the law asks for a separate yes (the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland and some US states, or when we can't tell where you are), it stays off until you tick a box. elsewhere it's part of the signup terms. either way you can switch it off on your page at any time.
your controls
- download everything we hold about you as JSON.
- switch video training on or off.
- delete everything. memory, messages, schedule, consent records, any training video and your number are erased, and a subscription is cancelled first.
- what deletion keeps: one billing row (the hashed number, plan state and Stripe ids), needed for billing records and so the same plan isn't charged twice.
safety
every message is checked before it's sent. if you seem to be in crisis, the character steps aside and you're sent crisis resources instead. kyu is for adults, 18 and over.
questions or requests: reply STOP to pause at any time, or use your page.
